Kinoverzum, the university cinema of the International Slavic University, partnered with the 9th edition of the Kinenova International Film Festival, held from October 15 to 20 in Skopje. Most of the events, including the festival’s awards ceremony, took place at our Kinoverzum cinema in Kisela Voda, turning it into a hub of cinematic art and culture during these days.
A special honor for us during Kinenova was the presence of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, at an event dedicated to Finnish cinema alongside Finland’s Ambassador, H.E. Niklas Lindqvist, as well as the screening of the film Woman-Killer by Greek director Eva Nathena. Among the distinguished guests was also the Mayor of Kisela Voda, Orce Gjorgjievski, with the Municipality of Kisela Voda being one of the event’s supporters.
From the International Slavic University, the event was attended by the Rector, Prof. Lenche Petreska, PhD the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Prof. Pavlina Stojanova, PhD, Ivan Spasev, a member of the Board of Directors, and Mihaela Gjorcheva, also a Board member and founder of Kinoverzum.
The festival kicked off on October 15 at the Frosina cinema, where Austrian director Ulrich Seidl received the prestigious Golden Mane award for his outstanding contribution to cinematic art. The successful pre-jubilee edition of Kinenova concluded on October 20 with the screening of It All Comes to an End by Croatian director Rajko Grlic, attended by actor Janko Popovic Volaric.
This year, the festival centered on an inspiring theme—”Which came first: The film or the story?”—exploring the relationship between storytelling and visual art. Our partnership with Kinenova, alongside the support from all involved institutions, once again reaffirmed Kinoverzum’s efforts to serve as a cultural focal point promoting top-tier cinematic art.
We are proud of our role in this prestigious festival and look forward to future successful collaborations. There are plans for next year’s festival to be held simultaneously at the other three Kinoverzum cinemas in Sveti Nikole, Veles, and Shtip.
