Today in Sveti Nikole we had the honor to celebrate Maslenitsa, ie. Russian forgiveness day.
The event was organized at the town square, and is within the organization of International Slavic University G.R.Derzhavin, the Embassy of the Russian federation of Macedonia, Municipality of Sveti Nikole, Macedonian – Russian chamber of commerce and the alliance of аassociations of Macedonian – Russian friendship.
The event was enriched with performances of the folklore ensemble “Chajka”, the choir “Kiril i Metodij” from Veles, and the famous singers Aleksandar Belov, Darko Ilievski and Vlatko Lozanovski.
Maslenitsa represents the celebration of the new life, the awakening of the nature, the arrival of the sun’s warmth. At the table pancakes are offered which represent the sun, and since that day in the orthodox world the lent begins as an announcement for the great christian holiday Easter.
