ISU representatives in India: Mihaela Gjorcheva and Ivan Spasev participated in the 30th Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam
20 November 2025As part of the curriculum at the Faculty of Law of International Slavic University in Sveti Nikole, practical training was organized through a visit to the Kumanovo Prison Correctional Institution and its Open Department in Kriva Palanka.
The visit provided students with firsthand insight into the system for the enforcement of criminal sanctions through:
- An introduction to the institution’s legal and organizational framework
- A brief training session and presentation on its conditions and operations
- A tour of selected areas within the institution, including vacant prison cells and the monitoring system
- An overview of the work of the Rehabilitation Sector and the Legal and Administrative Sector

The Kumanovo Prison Correctional Institution is a semi-open correctional facility with a pretrial detention unit serving courts in the country’s northeastern region. The institution has the capacity to accommodate 200 convicted individuals and 50 pretrial detainees.
During the visit, Dr. Elena Stojanova Zlateva met with the institution’s Director, Oliver Cvetkovski. Their discussion focused on future opportunities to strengthen cooperation between International Slavic University and Kumanovo Prison, with particular emphasis on practical training and student development.
