Study program Psychology in Social Care

Thеse study programs at the Faculty of Psychology provide professional preparation for students and provide them with the resources to learn the basics steps of counseling and treatment of individuals, groups and communities in need of help.
The study programs are suitable for those who want to take care of people, who would like to work on social change and do something about improving the quality of life on an individual and global level.
Psychology has an important role in the prevention and protection of individuals, groups and families under different types of risk of psychological and psychosocial problems.
In addition, psychology in the field of social protection has a therapeutic function. The psychologists employed in this area work with individuals with traumatic and post-traumatic problems. In the role of counselor they deal with marital and family problems, children and youth with behavioral disorders, children, youth and adults with alcohol and drug addiction, victims of domestic and other types of violence. In addition to the social workers, are members of multi-professional teams in the institutions for social protection, the institutions for orphans and parental care, in the NGO sector, etc.
The psychologists in this area are both educators and coaches of various marginalized groups. The complexity of the work in these areas requires expanded and deepened knowledge and skills to work with people with different problems. The purpose of these studies is to expand the knowledge of the psychologists in the field of social protection in order to more successfully protect and improve the quality of life in the community.
The study program was designed by following these principles:
- integration of theory and practical work in the field of clinical and counseling psychology,
- adapting the studies to the individual needs of the candidates through various elective courses,
- learning through the direct application of the acquired knowledge during the studies provided through mentoring and clinical practice,
- following the newest trends and discoveries in the modern clinical and counseling psychology and related fields through scientific and professional literature.
There are one-year studies (60 ECTS) or two-year studies (120 ECTS). Students that acquired 180 ECTS during their studies are eligible to enroll at two-year studies (3+2), while students that acquired 240 ECTS are eligible to enroll at one-year studies.
Two-year study program (fourth plus fifth year)

Duration of study: 2 years (4 semesters)
Condition: have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 180 ECTS

Awarded degree: Мaster of Science
Tuition fee per year for international students: EUR 2030
This is a two-year second-cycle study program (120 ECTS), and only students who have graduated with at least 180 ECTS can be enrolled.
In the time frame of the two – year study program, the students have to pass 17 courses, whеre at the one – year program there are 4 courses.
Each semester has required and elective courses. When there are two elective courses in a semester the student chooses only one, and when there are three elective courses, the student chooses two. Additionally, the teaching includes practical classes, preparation of a master’s thesis, and finally the defense of a master’s thesis.
Upon completing the studies and the defense of the master’s thesis, the student is awarded with a Мaster of Science degree – module: Psychology in Social Care.

One-year study program (fifth year)

This is a one-year second-cycle study program (60 ECTS), and only students who have graduated with at least 240 ECTS can be enrolled.

Enrollment requirements
We can only enroll students who have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 240 ECTS for the one-year study program, or 180 ECTS for the two-year study program.
The students should prepare all of the required documents, which depend on the country they come from. The international students may need to submit their Bachelor’s degree certificates for nostrification at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia. This should be done at least a month before applying for enrollment at our university.
The admissions process does not include entrance exams at the graduate level.
Required documents for international students
When applying for admission to second cycle, candidates should submit the following documents:
- Certificate (diploma) of graduation/bachelor’s degree;
- Transcript of records;
- Nostrification of the diploma (for international students)
- Birth certificate;
- ID;
- 4 document photos
For international students additional documents might be necessary. Documents for applications can be submitted at the International Slavic University “G. R. Derzavin” in Sveti Nikole, at the following address “Marshal Tito” No. 77 , and Bitola at the following address “Novachki pat” No. 16.
Tuition fees
The tuition fee per year for international students is EUR 2030. International students pay the whole amount of the yearly tuition fee at the beginning of each academic year.
