Study program Psychology in Social Care
Thеse study programs at the Faculty of Psychology provide professional preparation for students and provide them with the resources to learn the basics steps of counseling and treatment of individuals, groups and communities in need of help.
The study programs are suitable for those who want to take care of people, who would like to work on social change and do something about improving the quality of life on an individual and global level.
Psychology has an important role in the prevention and protection of individuals, groups and families under different types of risk of psychological and psychosocial problems. In addition, psychology in the field of social protection has a therapeutic function.
The psychologists employed in this area work with individuals with traumatic and post-traumatic problems. In the role of counselor they deal with marital and family problems, children and youth with behavioral disorders, children, youth and adults with alcohol and drug addiction, victims of domestic and other types of violence. In addition to the social workers, are members of multi-professional teams in the institutions for social protection, the institutions for orphans and parental care, in the NGO sector, etc.
The psychologists in this area are both educators and coaches of various marginalized groups. The complexity of the work in these areas requires expanded and deepened knowledge and skills to work with people with different problems.
The purpose of these studies is to expand the knowledge of the psychologists in the field of social protection in order to more successfully protect and improve the quality of life in the community.
Master's degree
The study program was designed by following these principles:
- integration of theory and practical work in the field of clinical and counselling psychology,
- adapting the studies to the individual needs of the candidates through various elective courses,
- learning through the direct application of the acquired knowledge during the studies provided through mentoring and clinical practice,
- following the newest trends and discoveries in the modern clinical and counseling psychology and related fields through scientific and professional literature.
The duration of the studies can be one year (60 ECTS credits) or two years (120 ECTS credits):
- Two-year program (fourth plus fifth year), 300 ECTS
- One-year program (fifth year), 300 ECTS

Within the two-year study programs, students are required to pass 17 subjects, while in the one-year programs, the number of subjects totals 4.
Each semester includes both mandatory and elective subjects. From the offered two elective subjects, students choose only one, while from the offered three or four, students select two subjects. Additionally, the curriculum includes the preparation and defense of a master’s thesis.
Upon completion of the studies and the preparation of the master’s thesis, the student earns the professional title of Master of Science in Psychology – Psychology in Social Care

Students who have earned 240 ECTS credits during their undergraduate studies are eligible to enroll in the one-year (4+1) postgraduate programs. Within this one-year program, students must pass a total of 7 subjects.
In the 9th semester, there are both mandatory and elective subjects. From the three offered elective subjects, students choose only two. Additionally, the curriculum includes the preparation and defense of a master’s thesis.
Upon completion of the studies and the preparation of the master’s thesis, the student earns the professional title of Master of Science in Psychology – Psychology in Social Care.

Admission requirements
Candidates with a completed first cycle of studies are eligible to enroll in the second cycle of studies, with the following requirements:
- 240 ECTS credits (completed four-year study program) for enrollment in one-year study programs, and
- 180 ECTS credits (completed three-year study program) for enrollment in two-year study programs.
The admissions process does not include entrance exams at the graduate level.
Documents for admission
When applying for admission to the master’s program from outside the Republic of North Macedonia, students are required to prepare the following documents:
- Higher Education Diploma (certified with an Apostille Stamp or a stamp from the respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs for countries not members of the Hague Convention);
- Transcript of Records or Diploma Supplement;
- Decision from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia for the recognition of the diploma for completed higher education (our university offers assistance in obtaining this document);
- Birth Certificate;
- Certificate of Citizenship;
- 4 passport-size color photographs.
The application documents should be submitted to the International Slavic University:
- in Sveti Nikole, located at Marshal Tito No. 77 – 2220 Sveti Nikole, Republic of North Macedonia or
- in Bitola, located at Novachki Pat No. 16 – 7000 Bitola, Republic of North Macedonia.
Tuition fees
For international students, the tuition fee is EUR 2030 per year. International students are required to pay the full amount of the yearly tuition fee at the beginning of the academic year.
